Dolpo Trek

Located on the isolated corner of Trans Himalayan Zone Dolpo is a virgin and divine land in Mid-Western Nepal. Shey-Phoksundo National Park (3555 sq.km) in the core of Dolpo Region is famous for snow leopard. A great Naturalist Rodney Jackson conducted his research on snow leopards in Shey Phoksundo area. Also the famous feature film Caravan highlights the struggle for existence by the local residents in a place like Dolpo. The Dolpo is famous for deepest Lake Phoksundo in entire Himalayan Region. Mother Nature created a unique and wonderful treasurer like Dolpo, which is being the shelter of many rare alpine living beings. In spite of tough trails and rugged topography journey to Dolpo Region is a life time experience. Tourists rarely visit Dolpo Region and the trekking route is very narrow and steep at places, so good hiking experience is essential for this trek. The altitude ranges from 2500m to 5070m (8200 ft to 16629 ft).

Detailed itinerary:
Day 01 to 03: Arrive Kathmandu. Day 04: Kathmandu to Nepalgunj by one-hour flight. Day 05: Nepalgunj to Juphal (3358m). Early flight to Juphal. After the breakfast at Juphal trek to Dunai (2134m). Day 06: Dunai to Hanke check post (2660m). Day 07: Hanke check post to Reji. Day 08: Reji to Phoksundo Lake (650m deep). Day 09: Phoksundo Lake. Rest at Phoksundo Lake to admire the beauty of this region. Day 10: Phoksundo Lake to Baga La (5070m). Day 11: Baga La to Numla Pass Base Camp. Incredible views of the Kanjiroba massif to the west can be seen from the wider valley surrounded by glacier and blade shaped rock cliffs. Day 12: Numla Pass Base Camp to Kakar Gomba (Tarap). Ascend the Numla Pass from where the beautiful view of upper Tarap valley can be seen. Day 13: Tarap to Dho. Enjoy the culture shock of Dolpo. Day 14: Dho to Big Cave (3900m). Day 15: Big Cave to Lahini (3200m). Time-wise this hike is short but most difficult part of the entire trek while descending the canyon. Day 16: Lahini to Tarakot (2500m). Ascend to Kamigaon (2950m), the winter residence of Tarap Dho people. Day 17: Tarakot to Dunai. Follow the Baglung Khola and cross the bridge to reach Laban then to Dunai. Day 18: Dunai to Juphal. A short hike. Day 19: Fly out to Nepalgunj from Juphal. Same day fly back to Kathmandu from Nepalgunj. Day 20: Sightseeing and shopping in Kathmandu. Day 21 to 22: Fly back home.
